For A Level students everywhere, this is potentially the most stressful day of your life. This day is a massive judge of whats going to happen for the next 3-7 years of your life. This day is the result of 2/3 years of hard work(maybe), and time and effort. This day is the armageddon, judgement day, the end of the world, the day God judges all (or UCAS judges you, same thing really) It’s all out of your power now. The papers have been sat, the courseworks been marked, the assignments have been handed in. With it only being 9 days away now for us 2014 applicants, it’s a ticking time bomb. Here’s a few of my tips and advice for those with a VIP invite to the stress-inducing judgement day.
- Plan ahead. Start your research on Clearing and Adjustment if you think you have either overachieved or underachieved. Start your research if you are even the tiniest bit uncertain as it’s better to be on the ball when it comes to these two little demons.
- Adjustment – You can apply for this if you have excelled the grade requirements for your firm choice. So if you’re firm choice asked for a BBB from you, and you got an ABB, then you can go through Adjustment to find a course at another university for these grades. However, if you got an AAC, you can’t go through Adjustment as all of your grades did not excel the firm choices’ requirements. Confusing stuff. To find Adjustment places, you need to go on the individual universities websites to find out if they’ll be on Adjustment and contact them via there. However, if you’ve exceeded you’re requirements for your firm and you still want to go there, then you’re allowed to just stick at that place. They won’t kick you off for getting high grades.
- Clearing – Clearing is for those who’ve either missed their offers, or changed their mind despite being accepted by their firm/insurance university. It basically gives any UCAS applicants who don’t have an offer currently the chance to get one. There’s more information on it here. Find out before results day ideally if another university you like the look of has space for you on their course through clearing. This saves the emotional hustle and bustle once you’ve got your results to go through all the university websites and find your course. If you’ve done it at home already, you’re already ahead of the game and can get started as soon as you open that envelope.
