My name is Cerys Davey and I’m a student in Aberystwyth University. I’m from Crynant, Neath originally, but decided to come here to Aberystwyth to study the Professional Welsh course. I spent my early school years in Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Blaendulais (Seven Sisters Welsh Medium Primary School) before moving on to Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. I stayed in Ystalyfera to study for my A Levels in the sixth form, Canolfan Gwenallt. I am most definitely a South girl!
Me and my younger brother, Joseff were lucky enough to be raised bilingually, speaking only English in the house with my mother and father, and only Welsh with my grandparents. I was inspired to study Welsh on a trip to the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff. I saw how little Welsh was being used, and I decided there and then that I would go on to study Welsh at university.
I live in a house with six other girls, which – as you can imagine – is a right pain at times, but we’re all like sisters! What family doesn’t fight? I was so lucky to find a group of friends as great as these guys, even though they’re all a bit nuts!
At the moment, I’m honoured to say I’m working in Siop y Pethe, Aberystwyth, and loving every minute. I love browsing through all the different kinds of books on offer, especially the Medieval Welsh Literature section! I love to read Medieval Welsh Literature! It’s the period that brought us the Mabinogi, Dafydd ap Gwilym, the Arthurian Legend, to mention but a few well known topics!
I consider myself an outgoing and happy person, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blog!
